I was contacted by clients David & Jayne to hand-paint their oak kitchen in Wandsworth.

It was a bespoke oak kitchen built approximately ten years ago by a local company. It was extremely well made but had aged badly.  The first concern when hand painting an oak kitchen is the tanning. To combat this I cleaned down the units using methylated spirits and after a light sanding with 240-grade sandpaper, I applied one coat of otex adhesive primer which blocked any bleeds through the paint

David and Jayne had chosen Farrow and Ball Cornforth white for the bulk of the kitchen and Farrow and Ball Downpipe for the island and one cupboard.

Whilst  Farrow &Ball is a good quality paint, wherever possible I use Helmi furniture paint given its hard-wearing properties and a fantastic finish.

To help achieve this exemplary finish between the two top coats I use wet and dry, and although this is a time-consuming process it produces an unparalleled glass-like finish.

As you can see in the photos the transformation is amazing.
